Hi Jordin! Why don’t you introduce yourself!
Hello 🙂 My name is Jordin – I am a wife, designer, dog mom and business owner!
Your business name is so unique, can you tell us what meaning it holds for you?
Unica Forma means unique form 🙂 I had no idea what to call my business when I first starting out, so my husband looked up names in Latin to use and we came up with Unica Forma and Unicum Charta. We took a vote with my immediate family and Unica Forma won 🙂
What inspired you to bring this business to life?
Unica Forma started while I was planning my own wedding. I was searching for w
edding invitations that really felt like “us” and had no luck. I have always known how to use Photoshop and decided to design our invitations myself. After sending them out we got TONS of compliments, and I posted them on Facebook. From there the inquiries started rolling in and the business was born!
What is your favorite part about your job?
Designing for people. I love the challenge of infusing two styles together, and telling someone’s story through art.
A lot of brides and grooms have started leaning towards e-invites rather than physical invites. Why are physical pieces of stationery so important?
After the DJ leaves, the flowers wilt and the day is over, what do you have left to remember your big day? Your photos, your dress and your stationery! They are a piece of your weddi
ng that you can keep forever and show your kids & grandkids for years to come. If you design them the way you want, they truly are a work of art and something that represents you and your wedding day.
What are the benefits of having something custom created versus using a template from an online vendor such as Minted?
Big box retailers are limited in what you can get design wise and they aren’t a small business. With a small business you are working with 1-2 people who work with you from start to finish that actually care about you and your business. You are able to talk to the designer and tell them exactly what you want and actually get it.
What is your biggest piece of advice for a bride who has no idea about what kind of design or vibe she wants for her stationery?
Look around! Browse the internet at things that are out there, get an firm idea of what style your wedding is going to be, think about your love story and how you would want to incorporate it. Working with a custom designer lets you dream big – so do it!!
I see on your website that you love books! What’s your all time favorite book and why?
Oh my gosh that’s really hard. I don’t know that I could pick an all time favorite. A book I recommend to everything is The Four Agreements. It’s not necessarily my all time favorite but it’s good, short and easy. It will make an impact on your life if you read it.
I also saw that you’re a huge lover and self-care! What are some of your favorite self-care products, and how do you recommend to brides take care of themselves leading up to their big day?
Self-care doesn’t have to be some elaborate thing where you spend $100s of dollars on products. My favorite thing to do is a foot mask. I have rough heels and doing a foot mask makes my feet as smoooooth as a babies bottom and I’m obsessed with doing them! Self-care is really just taking time out of your day, even just five minutes, to focus on loving yourself. I think it’s important for everyone, especially brides who are in high-stress situations leading up to their big day, to take time during each day for themselves doing what makes them feel good. It doesn’t have to be a facemask, or dry brushing, it could be meditating for five minutes or reading their favorite book before starting their day.
I’m a fellow Netflix lover too! What’s your go-to show that you love to binge watch?
Anytime my husband and I watch anything, we binge it haha! We never watch anything in a reasonable amount of time – we always finish an entire show in 2-3 days. When we are not really paying 100% attention, or don’t want to start a new show, we will throw on Impractical Jokers or The Office.
